Rebuild Engines ISC

In the construction machinery and commercial vehicle sectors, the ISC series of engines can be found everywhere—from fire and emergency rescue vehicles to heavy-duty trucks, from RVs to school buses, and from cranes to excavators. Since its debut in 1998, this 8.3-liter inline-six diesel engine has firmly held a central position within the Cummins powertrain family as a mid-displacement power platform. Its positioning is clear—sitting above the ISB and below the ISL—providing reliable support for applications requiring greater power and higher torque. The problem, however, is that even the most robust machines cannot withstand the wear and tear of time and the constant strain of heavy loads. Power loss, rising fuel consumption, excessive emissions, and starting difficulties—once these issues plague an ISC engine, equipment managers are forced to face a difficult choice: spend a fortune on a new engine, or put up with the performance decline and continue to make do. Keluo offers a third option—a practical path that truly gives the ISC engine a new lease on life.

The ISC engine has a solid technical foundation, which is the fundamental reason it deserves a major overhaul rather than simply being scrapped. With a displacement of 8.3 liters and a six-cylinder, 24-valve design, its power output ranges from 240 to 380 horsepower, with peak torque reaching up to 1,050 pound-feet. The high-pressure common-rail fuel system enables precise fuel injection control, while Cummins’ patented variable-geometry turbocharger ensures the engine receives the optimal air intake across the entire operating range. Even more noteworthy is the ISC engine’s replaceable wet-liner design—a seemingly minor detail that is of immense significance for overhaul and remanufacturing. Wet liners mean that the cylinder block itself does not have to be scrapped entirely due to bore wear; simply replacing the liners restores bore precision, significantly reducing overhaul costs and improving the feasibility of remanufacturing. The XPI fuel system is derived from the ISX15 heavy-duty engine, and the atomization and combustion efficiency provided by high-pressure injection enable this 8.3-liter engine to deliver power performance far exceeding that of its peers. The cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system lowers combustion temperatures, reducing emissions while optimizing fuel economy. All these technical features combined ensure that the ISC engine maintains outstanding reliability and durability even under high-load, high-intensity operating conditions.

Keluo’s overhaul service for ISC engines goes beyond simply replacing a few wear-and-tear parts; it is a comprehensive, systematic remanufacturing process. Every ISC engine sent to Keluo’s workshop undergoes thorough disassembly and cleaning. Technicians then use specialized testing equipment to perform comprehensive dimensional measurements and non-destructive testing on core components such as the cylinder block, crankshaft, camshaft, and connecting rods, scientifically determining which parts can be reused and which must be replaced. Thanks to the wet-liner design of the ISC engine, cylinder block remanufacturing is both feasible and cost-effective—replacing cylinder liners, reassembling piston ring sets, precision-honing crankshaft journals, and installing new bearing shells. This series of repair procedures is carried out in strict accordance with Cummins’ original factory standards. The fuel injection system undergoes fine-tuning on a calibration bench to ensure optimal matching of injection pressure and fuel delivery volume. All seals, gaskets, and filters are replaced with new ones, while turbochargers are either repaired or replaced based on their actual wear and tear. After assembly, the remanufactured ISC engine undergoes multi-stage load testing and performance verification on a dedicated test bench. Power output, fuel consumption, cylinder pressure balance, and operational smoothness—every single metric must meet the required standards before the engine is released for delivery.

The returns from this rigorous remanufacturing process are tangible. Keluo’s remanufactured ISC engines perform nearly as well as new engines, with both power output and fuel economy restored to ideal levels, while the procurement cost is only 50 to 60 percent of that of a brand-new engine. Compared to overhauls performed by ordinary repair shops, Keluo’s remanufactured ISC engines have a lower failure rate and a longer service life, reaching more than 80 percent of a new engine’s lifespan. The delivery cycle has been reduced to just one to seven days, minimizing equipment downtime to the greatest extent possible. In addition to fully overhauled engine assemblies, Keluo supplies a full range of ISC OEM-grade parts—including cylinder heads, crankshafts, camshafts, water pumps, oil seals, gaskets, and filters—truly enabling “one-stop” procurement of engines and parts. From heavy-duty trucks to city buses, and from construction machinery to emergency vehicles, overhauled ISC engines deliver stable and reliable power output.

Choosing Keluo’s ISC overhaul service means choosing not just a refurbished engine, but a complete power solution centered on equipment lifecycle management. Pre-sales technical consultations help customers refine
